Cannabidiol, or CBD as it’s more commonly known, is one of the many naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. These cannabinoids, or phytocannabinoids interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) which plays a crucial role in regulating many functions and processes in the body. CBD is nonintoxicating, therefore you can’t get “high” if you take CBD. What does produce the “high” is THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) which has a legal limit in the UK of <0.2% (Unless medically prescribed). Various types of CBD are available, including Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate: Full Spectrum – Retains all the components of the cannabis plant, including a very small (legal) amount of THC. Broad Spectrum – Has all of the components of the cannabis plant, all except THC. CBD isolate – Pure CBD, with no other components of the cannabis plant.
No, CBD is non-addictive. In April 2017, the World Health Organisation (WHO) concluded that CBD (Cannabidiol) “does not appear to have abuse potential or cause harm”.
Yes. In November 2020, the European Court of Justice published a judgement stating that Cannabidiol extracted from the cannabis plant should not be considered a drug under the 1961 United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.
Yes, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) removed CBD from the list of prohibited substances in January 2018.
Internationally, it is considered safe and acceptable to consume up to 200mg of CBD per day. In the UK however, the FSA (Food Standards Agency) recommends no more than 70mg per day for healthy adults.
The most popular way of taking CBD is sublingually (under the tongue) using a CBD oil or tincture. However, there are many other ways of getting your daily dose of CBD, such as: Gummies – got a sweet tooth? Gummies are a great way of keeping your CBD levels topped up during the day. Coffee – are you a coffee lover? Then why not kill two birds with one stone?! Tea – if coffee isn’t your thing, then Tea is a great alternative and comes in many different flavours. Vape pen – both disposable & refillable vapes are an easy, handy way to get your CBD. Topical creams & balms – when creams & balms are used, the CBD can reach local targets such as sore joints & muscles. Great for pre or post sports/workouts. They are often blended with coconut oil or beeswax, making your smell good too. Winner! Chocolate – for chocolate lovers – isn’t that (nearly) everyone? Just like gummies, if you like a little bit of the sweet stuff, then CBD infused chocolate is a great option. Bath Bombs & Salts – We advise relaxing in a nice warm bath for a minimum of 20 minutes to get the full effects of the CBD bath bomb or salts. A good book and candles are optional. Sensual Massage Oils & Glides – A relatively new innovative way to use CBD whilst enjoying a relaxing massage (win-win!).
